Situated in one of the most beautiful regions of Arkansas, Beaver Lake is a great diving lake. Generally the closer you are to the north end, the better the visibility. If you have a boat, you have a number of good dive sites, but the Damsite North Park (one of the clearest sites) is accessible by land and is open from 8am to 10pm daily, April 1 - November 1. The bluffs here feature ledges, running the full length of the site, stair stepping to the deep water. Depths can range from ankle deep to over 100 feet, but remember we do have thermoclines! That 84 degree surface temp may be in the low 50’s at 70 or 80 feet deep! Generally, Beaver boasts terrific visibility for a freshwater lake. Of course vis is dependent on seasonal rainfall amounts, wind, and boat traffic. Typically we see visibility in the 25-35 foot range in the spring with summer vis dropping to 15-18 feet in the shallows during the warmer months. That’s when deeper diving offers a big payoff, although you still need that cold water wetsuit! For divers with boats, Beaver offers many excellent sites, especially in the Lost Bridge area. All divers, whether shore based or boat based are required to have a flag. If you are camping check out the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to reserve your site in advance.
